THE MYRIADES 2006 - 2009
IIn this collection, started in 2005, Cosmina offers a vision where man, part of a whole entity, part of the universe, is in an endless search for means to live in harmony. Inspired by Buddhist thinking, stating that everyone wants to be happy and escape suffering, the artist creates a universe where the first objective is to reach “nirvana, “a peaceful state of mind free from negative thoughts.
Cosmina suggests a multitude of positive emotions driving the soothing of the mind and body well-being: Aquatic, terrestrial, or air. Also, building on the notion of time and transcribing these emotions or paths, she draws us into a cycle where beings constantly renew to reach and stay in that state of grace and peace of mind.
TEMPORAL VIBRATIONS 2009 - 2010
Cosmina depicts the powerlessness of man facing time. Inevitably condemned, the individual can perceive the opportunity of his stay on Earth and fully live his life by finding his place in the world, which is way more extensive within the universe.
However, time is also a way to perceive what changes and to understand the past, present, and future. In fact, the different lives and destinies the artist offers illustrate an elusive concept allowing a man to seize his existence.
Cosmina also invites us to consider time as a succession of cycles. Thus, simultaneously, we can see this entity as a continuity mixing closely past, present, and future or as a perpetual revival offering us various visions of the relationship between man and time.
LIFE DRIVE 2010 - 2012
The collection “Life drive” sinks into the origins of the thinking being and provokes introspection into our existence.
Cosmina’s painting combines vital energy and brings us back to the essence of humanity.
She describes her reflection in this way :
« The artists have used mythological figures to interpret the affective or emotive state such as love, envy, hatred, selflessness, and jealousy, ...
My current artistic research aims to illustrate the different states of what we call life drive by disembodying them to transcribe them by symbolic images that evoke the intrinsic initiation of the emotions, their gush, and their capacity to sublime an incredible vital force. From the swarming of unicellular beings to the complexity of our ‘ego,’ meeting these vibrations results in the positive energy of life.
FROM APPEARANCE TO QUINTESSENCE 2012 - 2013
“From appearance to the quintessence” represents the idea that it is necessary to get rid of pretenses to find our true strength, or our reality, our reason for living. So, it is about wiping out hypocrisy, the mask everyone shows in society, and returning to what is essential, which characterizes us as a unique people.
While cosmologists consider the quintessence as a hypothetical matter that explains the acceleration of the universe’s expansion, thus as an energy present in the universe and a creation factor, Cosmina sees it as the foundation of the being, as the primordial essence of life, of existence. The quintessence is, indeed, for the artist what the individual must strive to do to regain their true nature.
THE METAMORPHOSIS OF THE INNER SELF 2013
Cosmina invites us to consider destiny as the essence inherent in existence. Between philosophy, sociology, and psychology, the artist assumes that the life of an individual changes course under the impulse of meetings or events leading to a form of fullness or, more precisely, to personal blossoming. Destiny is therefore treated as a programming of meetings affecting the human being in its relations with existence and psychological development.
Treating both abstract and esoteric topics, Cosmina pushes the boundaries of artistic representation once again. Indeed, she has been able to put forward the enigmatic and mysterious aspect of fate, developing works where shadow and light show, on the one hand, a prewriting of meetings and events destined to imprint the inner-self of a person and, on the other hand, the versatility of fate that can change depending on the reaction to these meetings and events. Moreover, the artist’s work delivers both the power and fragility of destiny through the depth of color tones, or more effectively, the sharpness of the shades conveying emotion and inducing the viewer to a reflection on its existence and the role that could play the fate.
THE LIGHTS OF HOPE 2015
MYSTERIES OF THE WIND - THE SYMPHONY OF THE EARTH 2015
This collection was created in 2015 for Cosmina’s solo exhibition in Paris. In July 2016, she added five new paintings to this collection, now visible in New York.
Listen to the wind, the wind moving the oceans, the wind seeping into the forests, into the cities.
These puffs, these shiverings, and the rustling of the leaves are like instruments with varied tonalities, forming a sublime orchestra.
Listen well; this is the symphony of the Earth.
THE EXTERNAL FACETS OF THE INNER SELF 2016-2017
The “Inner Self” is what you really are.
“The External Facets of the Inner Self” are the different aspects you want to show in society.
“The External Facets of the Inner Self,” is about this very moment when somebody changes their behaviors according to different situations. In my paintings, I have generally chosen to depict two separate entities to visually translate the duality between the Inner Self and the external facets. Very colorful directions indicate the change of status. In some paintings, a very strong movement shows the moment when this transformation occurs, the moment when the “Inner Self” takes on an external appearance according to the role it must play in society.
APPLYING THE SURREALIST AUTOMATISM THEORY 2017-2019
In 2017, in parallel to her painting, Cosmina decided to experiment with the principle of automatism developed by surrealist artists who applied the automatic writing techniques of André Breton. His idea was to suppress conscious control over the process of graphic creation.
Based on these theories, Cosmina has created three series (42 original artworks) grouped under the title: “The Secret Garden of the Mind.”
